IC History
The kingdom of Orlaine is a very troubled land. Adventure, Monsters, Magic and Treasure can be found throughout the realm and the brave, or foolhardy, profession of “Adventurer” is not unknown to the lowly peasant. Stories of demons, ghosts and the Dragons are echoed in a thousand taverns across the land. The land and indeed the continent of Ceaserea itself once belonged to an ancient kingdom of elves, although, even the court of the High Elf King have no Idea what happened to them. All that is known is that in the time before the coming of the spiritual Dragons, it was a very prosperous land, but with the arrival of the Dragons of spirit broke the elementals control of the physical realm and over aeons, the towns and cities of old were repopulated, rebuilt or simply forgotten by the emerging races. The dwarves settled into their caverns and holds underground and the elves of what will become the elven kingdoms retreated west to the forests and east to the plains, retreating from the new creatures, and the changes they wrought. Over time, the spiritual creatures became more civilized and even started to collaborate between themselves for protection. Eventually they forced the more hostile creatures, mainly uruks, south and west to create a kingdom of their own.
On seeing this, the elves and dwarfs both felt that it would be better to ally with these new creatures than be eradicated by them, because the spiritual creatures breed so quickly, the two magical races became story tails to the spiritual races, Immortal and all powerful creatures. Of course, no one would repute these stories, but still conflict was abound in the lands. Now that the main threat of attack from greenskins had abated, the remaining civilizations in the land fell upon each other. The magical races returned to isolation for a time, and the others fought. Some fled such as the gnomes and halflings, more became extinct whose names and description are lost to time, but what remained became known as Human.
Peace flourished in the land, and the warlord who led the humans became a king. Over centuries, the gnomes and halflings returned, trade with the elves and dwarves recommenced and slowly interbreeding between the races occurred. The dwarven half-breeds preferred dwarven company and eventually settled in the mountains and became hill dwarves, whereas the half-elves were more likely to remain in human areas. This became of prominent importance when a army of uruks attacked the elves centuries ago. Due to the half-elves extended life spans, they arose to positions of power as advisers to the royal court. The Human Kingdom arose to bear arms once again, this time to help the elves and push back the uruks again. The ensuing campaign sealed the bond between the two kingdoms and a marriage between the Royal families strengthened it even more. The elves helped to build the Capital of the humans land as thanks and even now, many elves remain in the land of Orlaine. The tradition of marriage between the Human and Elf royal families exists today, although with recent years seeing the death of the King and then after only a few years on the throne himself, his son. The only remaining member of the Royal family is the Elven Queen Mother, it remains to be seen if she will remarry to continue the bloodline.
